Jonathan Taylor News: NFL analyst explains why AFC East contender's potential Jonathan Taylor trade could sink RB's season
Jonathan Taylor has become a popular player that many teams are interested in, even though the Colts want a lot of money for him. The main reason for this is the large number of times he carried the ball in the past.
If he goes to the Miami Dolphins in the AFC East, his previous rushing efforts might not matter. NFL analyst Jason McCourty explained on Good Morning Football that the Dolphins' new coach, Mike McDaniel, didn't focus much on running the ball in his previous job. He didn't have a consistent running game in his old team, the San Francisco 49ers, either.
McCourty also said that Taylor might consider joining the Dolphins, but only if they pay him less than what the Colts are asking for.
Jonathan Taylor is in his fourth year in the NFL. Running backs usually have a tough time after turning 28, and Taylor is now 24, which is halfway there. This is similar to what happened to Ezekiel Elliott. This is also the last year of his current contract, so he wants to do well and get a big new contract after this season. Unfortunately, he didn't perform as well in 2022 as he did in the previous year.
In 2021, he had an amazing season with 1811 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. But in 2022, he wasn't as good and only got 861 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He also played in fewer games that year.
Any team that wants Jonathan Taylor will have to make him play one more year with his current contract or give him a big new contract, just like the Broncos did with Russell Wilson.
According to Spotrac, Taylor is set to earn $4.3 million in 2023, which will be his most lucrative year so far.
