Mitch McConnell freezes second time during the press conference

Mitch McConnell freezes second time during the press conference

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell froze while talking to reporters for the second time in a little more than a month. This happened in Covington, Kentucky, when he was asked if he would run for re-election in 2026. McConnell, who is 81 years old, paused for about 30 seconds before answering. His aides tried to help him, but it took a few more seconds for him to continue talking.

He answered a couple more questions after that, but the staff had to repeat the questions. He didn't say anything about his health and left with his aides. A spokesperson said he felt a little dizzy and paused during the press conference. Later, a staff member said McConnell is okay but will see a doctor before his next event.

This wasn't the first time something like this happened. On July 26th, McConnell stopped speaking for about 20 seconds during a press conference in Washington DC. He said he was fine afterward.

McConnell leads the Republican party's smaller group in the Congress. He was in the hospital for a week after a fall outside a hotel in March. This made him miss some work until April.

After the July incident, news said McConnell had fallen at least three other times since February. People are worried about his health as Congress has important work coming up in the autumn.

Senator John Thune, who is McConnell's helper in Congress, said McConnell sounded normal and happy when they talked after the incident.

President Joe Biden said he and McConnell have political differences, but he's a friend and he'll talk to him later.

People are also worried about the health of 90-year-old Senator Dianne Feinstein, who had shingles and was away from Congress for months. The average age for US Senators is 65.
