49ers Topple the Giants at Levi's Stadium; Seven Takeaways from Giants Vs 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers made a triumphant return to their home turf in Week 3 after securing two consecutive road victories. Facing off against the New York Giants on "Thursday Night Football," the red and gold emerged victorious with a commanding 30-12 win, propelling them to a 3-0 record for the first time since 2019.

49ers: Giants Vs 49ers

Here are the key takeaways from this thrilling Thursday night clash:

1. Christian McCaffrey Hits 5,000 Career Rushing Yards

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey continues to collect accolades. Through the first two weeks of the season, McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing yards, earning back-to-back FedEx Ground Player of the Week awards. In the game against the New York Giants, he achieved the significant milestone of 5,000 career rushing yards in his 14th game as a member of the 49ers (78th overall in his career). McCaffrey reached this milestone with a ten-yard carry early in the game. He didn't stop there, amassing 85 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, along with 34 receiving yards from five catches. McCaffrey extended his touchdown streak to 12 consecutive games with a four-yard rushing touchdown in Week 3.

2. Elijah Mitchell Contributes to Ground Game

After being sidelined in the previous game against the Los Angeles Rams, Elijah Mitchell played a substantial role against the New York Giants, lightening McCaffrey's load in the rushing department. Mitchell ended the day with 11 carries for 42 yards and three catches for two yards. His explosive 18-yard run was a highlight during San Francisco's second touchdown-scoring drive of the game.

3. Nick Bosa Registers His First Sack of the Season

Nick Bosa, the reigning AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year, steadily progressed since rejoining the team at the start of the season. He was on a snap count in Week 1, recorded three quarterback hits against the Rams, and finally secured his first sack of the season against Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in the first quarter, resulting in an eight-yard loss. Bosa's sack contributed to San Francisco's first three-and-out of the game. He later combined with Arik Armstead on a tackle of Jones during a failed two-point conversion attempt in the third quarter. The D-line also saw Javon Hargrave record a sack in the second quarter, leading to the defense's second consecutive three-and-out.

4. Rookie WR Ronnie Bell Shines

With star wideout Brandon Aiyuk absent, rookie Ronnie Bell stepped up significantly against the Giants. Bell made notable contributions, including a crucial special teams tackle that pinned New York deep in their territory, a 15-yard gain from catching a deflected pass, and his first professional touchdown, a nine-yard reception that capped off an impressive 72-yard drive.

5. Rookie Kicker Jake Moody Maintains Perfection

The 49ers' third-round pick, rookie kicker Jake Moody, continued his flawless performance. Moody had already been the third-highest scoring kicker through Week 2, and he added to his tally on Thursday night by successfully kicking three field goals from 28, 21, and 36 yards out, in addition to converting all of his PATs. Moody remains perfect, going nine-of-nine in field goal attempts and eight-of-eight in PATs over his first three NFL games.

7. YAC Duo Deebo Samuel and George Kittle Shine in the Second Half

The dynamic duo of Deebo Samuel and George Kittle made their presence felt in the second half of the game. Deebo Samuel, known for his yards-after-catch ability, showcased his skills with a 40-yard reception early in the third quarter, contributing to an 11-play, 72-yard field goal-scoring drive that put the 49ers ahead 20-12.
