Purdue football vs. Wisconsin football recap: Updates, score and highlights
The Wisconsin Badgers had a football game against the Purdue Boilermakers. The Badgers won 38-17, but it wasn't a happy victory because one of their players, Chez Mellusi, got hurt.
During the game, Mellusi got tackled, and it looked like his leg got hurt badly. The team was worried about him and the trainers had to put his leg in a special cast. They even had to take him off the field on a cart. Everyone on the team was concerned about how bad the injury was.
The coach, Luke Fickell, didn't know exactly how bad it was, but he said it didn't look good. He hoped Mellusi was on his way home from the hospital.
Mellusi and another player, Braelon Allen, had been sharing the running back position in the team. But after Mellusi got hurt, Allen had to step up. He did a great job, running for 116 yards and scoring two touchdowns. The team's quarterback, Tanner Mordecai, also did well, running for yards and throwing for 174 yards.
The coach was happy with how the offense played, especially Mordecai, who made some smart plays.
This win was important for the Badgers because they've been winning against Purdue for a long time. They've won 17 times in a row against them and haven't lost at Purdue's stadium since 1997.
Purdue, on the other hand, had a tough time in the first half of the game. The Badgers kept getting first downs, and Purdue couldn't stop them. By halftime, Purdue was losing 21-3.
Purdue's coach, Ryan Walters, was frustrated with the loss. He said there were many reasons they lost, and the team needs to work better together.
In the second half, Purdue tried to come back. They scored a touchdown and made the game 24-10. Then they scored again to make it 27-17, but they couldn't catch up to the Badgers.
In the end, the Badgers won, but they were sad about Mellusi's injury. Coach Fickell said the team grew up a bit because they had to deal with a tough situation.
Purdue's quarterback, Hudson Card, threw for 202 yards and rushed for 50 yards, but he also had two interceptions. Tyrone Tracy Jr. ran for a touchdown, and Deion Burks caught some passes for Purdue.
In summary, the Badgers won the game, but it was a bit of a bittersweet victory because of Mellusi's injury. Both teams had their ups and downs in the game, and it was a tough night for Purdue.
As for injuries, Mellusi has had some injuries in the past, including a wrist injury and a torn ACL. Purdue also had some players get hurt during the game.
