WWE: ‘The Rock’ Dwayne Johnson Returns After Almost 4 Years & Is Open To Fight Roman Reigns At Wrestlemania 40

WWE superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson talked about maybe having a match against his cousin Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 next year in Philadelphia. He said this during an interview on the Pat McAfee Show. The Rock said he's open to facing Reigns at WrestleMania 40 and that there's a possibility it might happen.

For those who don't know, Dwayne made his last WWE appearance in October 2019.

The Rock confirmed that there were plans for him to be the main event at WrestleMania 39 against Reigns earlier this year. He even had a verbal agreement with WWE chairman Vince McMahon and president Nick Khan in early 2022 for the match to take place in April 2023. But they couldn't agree on what the storyline should be, so the match got canceled.

Instead of The Rock, Cody Rhodes won the men's Royal Rumble match and challenged Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39. However, Reigns retained the title with some help from Solo Sikoa. Fans thought Rhodes might get another chance at WrestleMania 40, but The Rock's comments suggest something else might be in the works.

The Rock hasn't wrestled full-time since 2003 and had his last match over a decade ago at WrestleMania 29. He's been busy with acting and other projects, like owning a part of the XFL. Many believed his outside commitments were the reason the match with Reigns at WrestleMania 39 fell through, but he hinted that creative differences played a role too.

WrestleMania 40 could be a great fit for this match, and it's in Philadelphia, where The Rock had his first WrestleMania main event. Reigns has had an amazing run as a champion, holding a world title for more than 1,100 days, and his character could be a perfect match for The Rock's persona.

It's not clear what this means for Cody Rhodes, but if Reigns vs. The Rock does happen at WrestleMania 40, it would be a huge dream match for WWE, and they would likely try to make it happen if both wrestlers agree.
